Swiss turning and micro machining

For small turned parts with slender profiles, related diameters and front or back features. OUJI reviews the complete drawing and quantity to select the machine, workholding and inspection method.

Small shafts & pins

Stepped diameters, slender profiles and locating features. Show the mating fits, straightness and datum requirements on your drawing.

Contacts & inserts

Connector contacts, terminal pins and threaded inserts. Include bore, thread, knurling and plating requirements.

Sleeves & thin-wall parts

Small bores and lightly supported walls need a machining and inspection plan. Identify burr-sensitive edges and surfaces that must remain unmarked.

Part diameter & length

The current Citizen and STAR lineup covers miniature work on the R04VI and larger turned parts up to a standard Ø32 mm machining diameter. Length depends on the selected machine and guide-bushing configuration.

Critical dimensions

Selected critical dimensions are reviewed to ±0.005 mm. Material, geometry, workholding and the measurement method determine which features can meet this target.

Small parts on the Citizen R04VI

Our smallest finished outside diameter produced on the Citizen R04VI to date is Ø0.5 mm. Feasibility for your part depends on material, part length, tooling and inspection requirements and is confirmed after drawing review.

Our five R04VI machines have a standard maximum machining diameter of Ø4 mm. The wider Swiss-type lineup includes STAR SR-32JII Type B, STAR SB-20R Type N, Citizen L32 IX and A20VII machines.

Micro machining size capabilities

Our current 13 Swiss-type and sliding-headstock machines cover miniature work on the Citizen R04VI and larger turned parts up to a standard Ø32 mm machining diameter.

R04VI maximum length: 40 mm with a fixed guide bushing or 30 mm with a rotary guide bushing.

SR-32JII Type B headstock stroke: 320 mm in standard guide-bushing mode, 286.5 mm with the Rotary Magic Guide Bush (R.M.G.B.) unit, or 2.5 × bar diameter, capped at 80 mm, in guide-bushless mode.

SB-20R Type N is guide-bushless only. Headstock stroke is 2.5 × bar diameter, capped at 55 mm; for Ø20 mm stock the formula gives 50 mm, not 55 mm.

L32 IX maximum length per chuck: 320 mm in guide-bushing mode or 2.5 × workpiece diameter in guide-bushless mode.

A20VII maximum length: 200 mm in guide-bushing mode or 2.5 × workpiece diameter, capped at 55 mm, in guide-bushless mode.

GB means guide-bushing mode; NGB means guide-bushless mode. Standard machine limits depend on the installed configuration and are not a guarantee that maximum diameter, length and tolerance can be achieved together. Optional larger-diameter configurations are not included.

Mazak QTE-200MSY L turn-mill centers use a fixed headstock and are not included in this Swiss-type and sliding-headstock machine count.

Thin-wall machining on a STAR SP-23

All cutting operations and the S2 marking were completed within the SP-23. Machining and feed-rate adjustments brought the cycle from 10 to 8 minutes per part.

Identify fits and surfaces that must meet the drawing after plating, heat treatment or other finishing. Include coating thickness, masking, surface roughness and burr requirements.

Critical dimensions, edge condition and handling matter at this scale. The inspection method and report scope are agreed around the drawing and finished-part requirements.

First-part verification

The first piece from a new setup is checked against the drawing before batch production. Critical dimensions and the inspection method are established at this stage.

Dimensions, burrs & handling

In-process checks watch for dimensional drift, tool wear, burrs and handling damage. Small profiles can be measured on KEYENCE optical systems without a contact probe touching the feature.

Final checks & reports

Finished parts are checked against the agreed requirements. Specify which dimensions need recorded values, the report format and any material certificates when requesting a quote.

OUJI checks the drawing, material and quantity, identifies any information needed, and confirms the quotation scope and delivery schedule. Files can also be supplied later by email.
