Stock grade versus resin designation
Confirm the datasheet applies to the rod or plate being supplied. A molding-resin document should not silently replace the specification for a machined stock shape.

Ultem 1000 or 2300: is reinforcement part of the drawing?
Keep the full PEI formulation. Unfilled Ultem 1000 and glass-filled grades such as 2300 should not share one generic strength, appearance or compliance claim. Quote the actual machinable stock and required documentation; the brand name is only one part of the specification.

Make the drawing ready for review.
Focus on the details that change material purchasing, the machining route and finished-part acceptance.
Thin sections and residual stress
Show slender walls and deep material removal. Include any specified conditioning or stress-relief step and identify when final dimensional inspection should occur.
Electrical and fire requirements
Where the buyer requires electrical behavior or a flammability rating, give the test basis and documented product grade. A general PEI characteristic is not finished-assembly approval.

Does “Ultem” identify a single machining material?
No. Keep the grade number and reinforcement in the purchase specification. Unfilled, glass-filled and static-dissipative products need their own stock and property review.
Can PEI use the same thermal limit as PEEK?
Use the manufacturer data for the selected PEI formulation and the relevant test or service condition. A temperature published for a PEEK product cannot establish the acceptance limit for PEI.
