6061 or 6082: what actually changes the order?

Compare the temper and available product form first. A stronger reference value for one extrusion does not establish the properties of a plate, a different thickness or your supplied lot. Keep the drawing grade unless an alternative has been approved; check anodizing, stock size and final fits alongside strength.

01 / MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

Aluminum grades & conditions.

Match the full designation on your drawing. Frequent machining experience, published project evidence and specifications for review are shown separately.

OUJI machining experience: confirmed by the company owner, 10 September 2026. Family-level experience does not establish a specific grade, stock condition or customer end use; see individual row and case evidence.

Listed grades do not imply current inventory. Material condition, stock form and documentation are agreed with the quotation.

02 / MACHINING REQUIREMENTS

Make the drawing ready for review.

Focus on the details that change material purchasing, the machining route and finished-part acceptance.

01

Material condition

Put the full grade, standard and temper on the drawing. A grade number alone does not define the supplied condition.

02

Thin walls & multiple faces

Identify functional datums and critical features so fixturing and the machining sequence can be reviewed together.

03

Anodizing & final dimensions

State which dimensions apply after anodizing, plus coating requirements, masked areas and cosmetic faces.

Planning an optical instrument enclosure or mount? Review port locations, thin walls and dimensions after anodizing in our photonics mechanical parts guide.

Read the actual machining route and evidence for each project. Requirements and individual inspection results retain their original scope.

5083 aluminum

5083 Aluminum CNC Turning: Improving Surface Consistency

Project quantity
1,000 parts for optical equipment
Production process
Feed optimization and revised tool selection
What this case documents

The project owner confirms 5083, the order quantity, machining changes and rework. The approximate production figures describe appearance: about 40% initially and nearly 90% after optimization. They are not final delivery results. Material temper and numerical roughness are unspecified.

PROCUREMENT QUESTIONS

Before you send the RFQ.

Inspection & quality records ↗
Is 6082 a direct replacement for 6061?

No substitution is assumed. Compare the specified product standard, temper, section thickness and required mechanical properties. The sourced extrusion examples below have different dimensional scopes; they are a starting point for discussion, not interchangeable purchasing specifications.

Does frequent machining mean a listed alloy is in stock?

No. The confirmed list describes machining experience. Availability of a particular diameter, plate thickness, temper and mill document is checked for each quotation.

Which dimensions should I mark for anodized aluminum?

Mark the dimensions accepted after anodizing and any areas that must remain uncoated. A bore fit, a threaded feature and a cosmetic face can require different masking and inspection decisions.

DRAWING TO QUOTATION

Have a material on your drawing?

Send the drawing and quantity. We’ll review the material, machining route, finish and inspection requirements together.

Response within 24 hours of receiving complete project details.
