5083 Aluminum CNC Turning: Improving Surface Consistency

A 1,000-part order for optical equipment called for consistent tool marks and a bright machined surface. OUJI adjusted the feed and reassessed tool selection to improve the appearance across the batch.

The Challenge

The visible surfaces needed an even machining pattern and a bright appearance from part to part. Early production could not meet that requirement reliably, making surface consistency the main obstacle on this order.

OUJI's Approach

OUJI optimized the feed and reassessed the cutting-tool selection. These changes addressed how the visible surface was produced during machining and improved the proportion of parts meeting the appearance requirement.

The Result

The revised machining approach improved the surface result substantially. Tool-quality variation remained an issue, according to the production team, and the remaining roughly 10% of nonconforming parts were handled through rework.
