Questions behind a credible raw-stock estimate.

Use this calculator for early planning. For production, confirm the available stock size, alloy condition, certification requirements and complete drawing.
How do you calculate material weight from length, width and height?

For rectangular stock, multiply length × width × height to get volume, convert that volume to cubic metres, then multiply by the material density in kilograms per cubic metre. The calculator handles the conversion from millimetres or inches automatically.

How is raw material cost calculated?

Raw material cost equals calculated weight × the entered price rate × quantity. You can enter USD per kilogram or per pound; switching the rate basis preserves the same effective price. The displayed price is a material-only estimate and does not include manufacturing or delivery costs.

How do you calculate the weight of a solid round bar?

Round-bar volume is π × diameter² ÷ 4 × length. After unit conversion, multiply the volume by material density to get weight, then multiply by the entered price per kilogram and quantity for cost.

How do you calculate hollow tube weight and wall thickness?

Tube material volume is π × (outside diameter² − inside diameter²) ÷ 4 × length. Wall thickness is (outside diameter − inside diameter) ÷ 2. The inside diameter must be smaller than the outside diameter.

Are the material prices live market prices?

No. The prefilled prices are editable starter values so the calculator works immediately. Replace the example rate with your supplier rate, contract rate or current purchasing assumption before using the result for planning.

Should I enter finished-part dimensions or raw blank dimensions?

Enter the dimensions of the raw rectangular blank you expect to buy. A machinable blank is normally larger than the finished part because it may need saw allowance, facing stock, workholding material or standard bar and plate sizes.

Why can a manufacturing quote be much higher than this material estimate?

Material is only one part of a custom-part quote. Programming, setup, cycle time, tooling, yield risk, secondary processes, inspection, packaging and freight may outweigh the raw stock cost—especially for complex or tight-tolerance parts.
